One of my only food truck woe’s is how inaccessible parking is around most of the spots where the trucks operate. After seeing Roxy’s pork butt poutine special posted, I found myself circling around Dewey Square hopelessly, for once wishing I had just taken the train. I couldn’t be happier that I finally found a parking spot because that poutine was absolutely worth all the driving frustration.

Like a lot of people, I can’t go for much longer than a week without intensely craving some sushi. I was delighted when I went to photograph a story about Cafe Sushi’s Chef Seiji and his sushi Oshizushi style and learned about this method for the first time. Oshizuku style consists of forming the ingredients into a box form, rather than the traditional roll. The Oshizushi menu features unadulterated and delicious fish; you won’t find any spicy mayo on these items.

Charlie’s Bar is not only one of Aruba’s oldest bars, it’s the most nostalgic. Open since 1941, the bar has served locals, the oil refinery workers, prostitutes and tourist’s from every country imaginable. The bric-a-brac and knickknacks covering every surface of the wall will keep you entertained for at least a few rounds. Between stories swapped by the bartenders and regulars, you can expect to be fairly drunk on your way out. The portraits on the walls reflect the entire lineage of the Charlie’s family; pictures of Charlie Senior and his wife throughout their whole lives are the most prominent. No one is apt to forget Charlie, the departed; anyone in the bar can recount how he rang the bell above the bar three times before dropping dead atop his counter. The authenticity of the spirit of Charlie’s Bar is almost enough to forgive them for having a gift store next door.

Eventide Oyster Co. has been open for less than a year and already, I’ve made at least one special trip all the way to Maine for one of their signature brown butter lobster rolls (served on bao). The oyster selection is impressive, the specials are creative and the cocktails are top notch.
